Peruvian asparagus importers publish plan to boost sales

The Peruvian Asparagus Importer’s Association (PAIA) has completed and published their 2016/2017 Fresh Asparagus Category Statistics and Trends. According to Priscilla Lleras-Bush, PAIA Coordinator, this year’s Fresh Asparagus Category Plan is the tool for retailers and foodservice “to keep their fingers on the pulse of the industry and enable them to strategize and potentially boost sales within their locations.”

“Asparagus has a proven strong market trend with United States consumers; according to our report, United States Department of Agriculture/Department of Commerce, Peru imported over 46% of the total supply that was consumed in the US,” reports Walter Yager, Alpine Fresh and Co-Chairman of PAIA.

“Peru is a leading import source for fresh market asparagus in the United States as defined by the Category Plan. Peru remains to be the consistent, quality supplier of fresh asparagus into the United States. As consumers are looking for healthy and convenient super foods, Peruvian asparagus importers and exporters provide innovative packaging and cooking alternatives that appeal to a wide segment of the buying market,” states Jay Rodriguez, Crystal Valley Foods and Co-Chairman of PAIA.

“The 2016/2017 Fresh Asparagus Category Statistics and Trends specifically includes statistics relating to market summaries, trends, nutritional facts, consumer positioning, fresh asparagus consumption data and key essential demographics,” says Lleras-Bush. “We want to equip the entire industry with the type of information needed to sell more Peruvian asparagus.” “This is our goal - to inform and promote the trade.”

The Plan is available from any member of the Peruvian Asparagus Importer’s Association or by contacting their coordinator Priscilla Lleras-Bush at prestige@1scom.net
