Lyubov Export:

"Lleida and Murcia stand out in the Spanish stonefruit sector"

The stonefruit campaign continues in Lleida with lower production volumes than last year, although with stable prices, despite the drawbacks caused by the adverse weather conditions in most producing areas.

"We started our stonefruit campaign in Murcia and now we are working with Lleida until August, although there is not as much production as last year. At the end of Murcia's campaign, a lot of fruit had to be shipped as second class due to the excessive rains, so, although demand is not very high because of the bad weather at the destination markets, prices have remained stable," explains Libiana, of the commercial department of Lyubov Export.

According to the exporter, "the quality of Lleida and Murcia's stonefruit stands out when compared to other suppliers in Spain," so its price is also somewhat higher.

Lyubov Export is an importer and exporter of fruit and vegetables, among other foods. "Right now, we are in the middle of the stonefruit campaign and we supply paraguayo peaches, nectarines, apricots, peaches and cherries, both to European markets and Asia and the rest of the world.

"We export stonefruit to France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Norway, Ireland and the UK in Europe, and outside Europe shipments go to destinations such as Dubai or Canada, where we have very demanding customers who request only extra quality fruit by plane, especially for high-end supermarkets and luxury hotels."

According to Libiana, paraguayo peaches are the most demanded in Eastern Europe. "We possibly receive twice as many orders for paraguayo peaches than for other products, such as nectarines and peaches, which are supplied from other sources, like Greece or Italy. Before the veto, 70% of the stonefruit imported by Russia was paraguayo peaches. In contrast, the UK demands a lot more nectarines and peaches. In Central Europe, the demand for stonefruit is more varied."

The Valencia-based company plans the campaigns for all products months before their start, working with programs with its customers. "Our philosophy is based on the commitment that we have from the outset with both the client and the producers. We set prices with the growers before the campaigns start, consequently guaranteeing the marketing of interesting volumes."
