Halo program continues to grow

“Two weeks ago, we finished the last shipments of the Halo season,” says David Krause, president, Wonderful Citrus. “This was the third season and another very successful one. The brand continues to grow in terms of consumer recall. With over 50% market share, Halos finished the California mandarin season stronger than ever. Halos remain the number one mandarin brand in the country, reaching 84% awareness.” Halos will be available again late October.

New acreage
“We are not far from starting to plan for next season and expect volume to be up because of all the new acreage that we have,” shared Krause. The Wonderful Company is still planting new acreage and he anticipates a volume expansion every year for the next several years.

How to become a Halo grower?
The majority of Halos acreage is owned by Wonderful, but the company also works with partner growers. “Because the program is so successful, we are looking to attract more growers,” mentioned Krause. “We want to continue to meet growing consumer demand.” To become a qualified Halo supplier, certain requirements need to be met. The mandarins must be part of a group of varieties that are approved to go in the Halo box. In addition, they need to be easy to peel, seedless, sweet, tasty and the external color and blemishes need to meet certain parameters. “We are keenly focused on the standard of quality to ensure only the right product makes it into the Halos box,” finished Krause.
