Good outlook for eggplant is good, even with heat
“The supply for Fancy and Choice eggplant is good,” according to Kellen Copeland of Southern Valley Fruit & Vegetables, Inc. He reports that their supply is steady for the next three to four weeks. Asked about the stability of prices, he said that a case of Choice eggplant currently runs for $6 to $7 while a case of Fancy eggplant is $8 to $10 at this time, making it a good choice for retailers wishing to stock the vegetable for their customers.
“Our biggest challenge at this time is the heat. It’s not affecting the quality of production of our eggplant, but it would be better for the crop if it wasn’t so hot,” says Copeland.
Southern Valley sells its product to retailers across the United States and into Canada. The company owns farms in three locations: Moultrie, Georgia, Yucatan and Tennessee, allowing them to supply produce year-round.
