Cereza - new red peel potato variety developed by Agroplant and Marmocchi

Cereza is a new potato variety developed by the Dutch Agroplant and tested in Italy by Marmocchi Angiolino.

Harvesting of Cereza potatoes in Polignano a Mare, Puglia.

The variety has a yellow flesh and red peel, with 19% dry matter content and good yields. "We have been testing it in the Polignano a Mare area in Apulia for a few years and results are excellent. We have sowed it as a late variety, but it would work well if sowed earlier too."

"Grades are good and the potatoes can be used for all kinds of dishes. Many think red peeled potatoes can only be fried, but that is not true. A few markets like Tuscany, north Milan, the areas on the Adriatic sea and the Colfiorito area are very interested in this product because of its unusual appearance."

The cooperation between Agroplant and Marmocchi led to the creation of another variety, this time with a yellow peel, called Actrice. "We are working well together and have been developing interesting crossbreeds. One of these has a very firm flesh and will be destined to the British and North European markets. The first samples will be shipped this year."
