"Not much is given for chicory"

Due to the fact that there hasn't been a real winter the sales of chicory were disappointing this season. According to wholesaler Yves Lesage the price level is quite low at the moment. "It was slightly more expensive for a few weeks, but that's over now. Less than a Euro is given at the auction and that's not much."

Salad

Lesage offer chicory all year round and sells this vegetable on the wholesale market in Antwerp. "In the summer there is less demand anyway, so we expect the market situation to remain the same. It's never really busy in this period. Of course some chicory is eaten as salad when it's warmer, but only a small amount is needed for this."

New market?

There have been plans for the renewal of the wholesale market in Antwerp for years, but the question is when it will happen. "We still haven't signed anything so nothing is set in stone. No traders know, so we will have to wait and see."
