Gino Peviani said that "the solidarity of the locals and the commitment of our team have been essential. We managed to carry on with the vegetable season in a nearby warehouse thanks to some old lines."
On 20th June 2016, the Ginosa warehouse restarted activities after being completely renovated. "We took the chance to renovate the compromised structures and machinery."
The Solinda season
In the meantime, the distribution of Solinda mini-watermelons has started.
"Considering the bad weather that hit us in the past few weeks, it feels good to say things are going like they did in 2015. The period between late April and May has been quite interesting and some clients even doubled the volumes. The first two weeks of July have been more complicated, but we managed anyway."
Seedless watermelons
Peviani states it has great expectations for the Italian production. "This week there will be the transition from the Spanish fruit to the Italian one. The domestic season is looking well, especially thanks to the characteristics of the fruit - they are seedless, weigh between 1.3 and 2.9 kg, have thin rinds and compact yet juicy flesh. In addition, shelf-life is rather long. We have been growing seedless watermelons for over twenty years. In the beginning, we developed baby watermelons (3-6 kg) mainly for the export markets, then we developed Solinda.
