Potatoes harvesting delayed in Bologna due to cold and rain

When talking about potatoes, people are now referring to the new produce of the 2016 season, and especially that from Apulia. The Sicilian season is now coming to an end. "Only 5% of the old production is left," explains Fedagro Acmo Bologna director Roberto Piazza.

The "old" potatoes did rather well, as producer prices reached 27, 28 and even 30 cents per kg. We are hoping the new season will be just as good."

However, we will have to wait a while for potatoes from Emilia-Romagna as "production is ten days late due to the rain and low temperatures during the night."

Nonetheless, things are going well on the Bologna market, as new potatoes from Apulia are being sold at 60/70 cents per kg, meaning producers gain around 35/40 cents per kg.
