China: First batch of domestic dragon fruit arrive on the market

As the temperature continues to increase, summer season fruits start to swarm the market, this includes the first batch of domestic dragon fruits. However, its price is 46.1% lower than that of last year or to be more specific, its price has dropped from 13 Yuan to 7 Yuan per kilo. As in recent years, the rapid development of dragon fruit led to its continuously growing plantation area, among which Guangdong province, Guangxi Special Administrative Region and Guizhou province all have a plantation area of over 6,700 hectares.

Moreover, Guangzhou dragon fruit plantation has been seriously impacted by the cold of early March, and their market listing times are very much concentrated during the same period. Coupled with the competition from other popular summer fruits such as oranges, pomgranates and pears, the price of dragon fruit this year remains low.

Based on previous experiences, it is very difficult to raise the price if the first batch of dragon fruit is low priced, as from now until September, more and more dragon fruits will become ripe and arrive on the market.
