Peruvian avocado at Disney park in Shanghai

The Camposol and Intercorp companies stated that a large batch of Peruvian Hass avocado will enter China under the Disney brand, after this company opened a modern amusement park in Shanghai.

Through a joint statement, the companies said that the sale of Peruvian avocado for Disney would be implemented through the authorized importer Shanghai NongFu Fruit Co. Ltd.

Disney's park was opened on June 17 amid great expectations. The Peruvian avocado will be available in the park and in the most important high-end supermarkets, such as Super City, Ole, and RT Mart.

Similarly, stores specialized in fresh fruit and on-line platforms will market the Disney-branded avocado.

"Hass avocado obtained approval to enter the Chinese market at the end of the 2015 campaign and Peru started making regular shipment to that market since April this year," the companies stated.

So far in the current campaign, Peru has shipped about 50 containers of Hass avocados to China. It is estimated that shipments will continue until July.

Although the main markets are in the big cities, like Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing, recently there has been a growing demand in inland cities, such as Hangzhou, Nanjing and Chongqing.

China has shown significant growth in the consumption of avocado, as there has been a 160% increase in consumption over the last two years.

In 2015 avocado imports reached 15,000 tons. However, Mexico is the leading provider of the Chinese market.

Peru will compete in this interesting market with four core strengths: a good number of professional and experienced exporters, good product quality, excellent time of arrivals and tariff benefits under the free trade agreement with China.

The Chinese market looks very interesting for Peru's hass avocado, because consumers increasingly look for fruit and healthy products.
