First arrivals of Clementines and Navels at Beltran:

Weekly arrivals of South African citrus from now

South African citrus is a week later than in previous years, but there has not really been a shortage of citrus. Of course, we had supply from Spain, although quality was lacking near the end. Additionally, Egypt and Morocco were still on the market. Now is the time for a new season from South Africa. Expectations are good.

Eastern Cape

This week saw the first arrivals of Clementines and Navels from South Africa at Beltran in Brussels, Belgium, and from now new batches will arrive weekly. According to Eric Dierick quality is good. “The exporters we work with know what to send to the customers. The products are looking well and taste delicious.” The Clementines and Navels come from the Eastern Cape province and from Kirkwood, from supplier Safpro.

Good season
Dierick expects a good season. “We do see certain developments, such as the fact that South Africa is exporting to more and more markets in, for example, the Middle East and China. We notice it is becoming more difficult. Yet we have clear agreements with our suppliers and this season’s programmes will be delivered as usual.”
