Troubled season for Italian cherries

Stefano Pezzo, sales manager for Cherry Passion Srl, talks about the cherry campaign.

"It was a troubled season - the start of the campaign was excellent as quality was great and demand was high. Now the product is still good despite the rain and we have finished the fruit harvested in the plain. Local harvesting in hilly/mountain areas is now starting."

The Italian produce should be available for a few weeks - "we hope it will be available until July 10th. Then it will be the turn of cherries from Turkey, which we expect to be very expensive because production is rather scarce there too this year."

"Prices are still quite high and demand from abroad is slow because temperatures are still not ideal and the produce from Greece, Spain and Turkey is enough to meet it."
