Jorge Hernandez Gaona, a representative of the Mexican lime packing sector, noted, now that the states of Michoacan, Oaxaca, Colima and Guerrero were in full production and there were no more restriction for citrus growers, members of the citrus production chain had agreed to start harvesting and selling their lime 5 days per week in Tierra Caliente, including the markets of Buenavista and Apatzingan, after having been marketing it every third day for nearly 6 months.
He also stated that, currently, the Valley of Apatzingan was producing an average of 2,400 tons of fruit per day. Yesterday, producers sold 1,500 tons in fresh, while the remaining 900 tons were sent to the industry, which has also begun to increase its production of essential oil.
Regarding the prices that opened the third week of June, Hernandez Gaona said there had been significant variations, and that the value of a kilogram of lime ranged between 3.60 and 3.70 pesos in fresh market, and that the lime for the industry cost up to 34.35 pesos, which means the citrus sector was earning more than 8.4 million pesos.
