China: Investments in passion fruit cultivation

Guangxi province is home to China’s domestic passion fruit industry. The fruit is ripe by the middle of July. According to a local grower, it takes 120 days for the fruit to ripen. Passion fruit planted in April will be ripe by August.

Under normal conditions, passion fruit is harvested when 70% ripe. The skin of the fruit at this time is glossy and bright red of colour. The sugar content is 12 to 14 brix. As the ripening continues, the fruit becomes darker and wrinkled. The sugar content increases to 15-18 brix.
