Mexico: Avocado prices to stabilize mid-July

According to forecasts, there will be a higher supply of avocado between June and July that could stabilize the price of a kilo of this fruit at around 34 or 35 pesos, said Hector Hernandez.

Hernandez, the head of the Light Industry of the Ministry of Economy (SE) said that, according to the data from the National Information System and Market Integration, in the second week of June, the average wholesale price for avocados was almost 36.70 pesos.

Meanwhile, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reported that the average national price paid by consumers increased by 20.9 percent and amounted to 35.29 pesos per kilo at the end of May.

In an interview with Radio Formula, Hernandez said: "We believe that prices could increase in the coming days, but we expected that the increase in production in June and July will stabilize prices by mid-July, so a kilo of avocado could cost around 34 or 35 pesos."
