US market pricing tomatoes consistent
Diego Ley Senior started his own fresh produce on a few acres about thirty years ago in Sinaloa, Mexico. Diego: “We have a third generation family owned business nowadays, growing year round production on several thousands of acres open field, hothouses and greenhouses. Our production includes several tomato varieties, such as Roma (also organic), Vine Ripe (also organic), Beefsteaks, TOV, Red Grape and Yellow Grape. As well we produce red bell peppers and organic eggplant.”
He explains that the summer domestic markets should be steady this year with a potential for a small increase in the summer months. “We mainly see an increase in open field production in August from locally grown sources, mainly on the East Coast. Locally grown is usually prominent from August through the first squeeze. We feel we have planned our greenhouse production appropriately to support our customers and their programs.”
