Maoming lychees export to the US for the first time

The Guangdong Province Entry & Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau has published on its official website that 39 tons of lychees have been exported to the US on June 2nd.

Impacted by the cold weather last winter and rains during the lychee blooming season, the lychee and longan yields decreased. Of the lychee variety Feizixiao, famous for its strong export, yields decreased around 20%. Yields of the Heiye decreased by over 80%. As for longan, its yields has been cut over 80%. In general the fruits are smaller in size this year due to the shortening of their growing season. Moreover, this extreme weather conditions led to the increase of pest prevention cost.

Next to this, as the increase of the overall domestic labor costs, the purchase price of Maoming lychees increased a bit in compared with that of last year by 1.2-1.4 Yuan per kilo. All these challenges will inevitably increase the overall cost for lychee export price.
