Modern shiitake farm opened in Mitrovice, Kosovo
Last week a shiitake farm was opened with a phased weekly capacity of approximately 10 tonnes in Mitrovice, Kosovo. This is the first project in the region built by Green Mushroom Farm from the Netherlands. After many years of market development in Europe, the vision arose to also prepare for production in Europe. The following projects will also be realised in the foreseeable future, with a focus on exotics.
The quality of the grown shiitake is exceptional, partly because of participation from Japanese technology. Because they have their own production and contact directly with pickers all over the world, GMF has control over about 90 per cent of their products ‘from farm to fork,’ which benefits quality, delivery and price. In recent years many investments have been made in close cooperation with players in key markets.
By improving and expanding packaging possibilities, sights have now been turned towards delivering directly to supermarkets and food service companies. A sophisticated range of about 25 strains presented in specially developed cooled presentation chambers are now available under brand name ‘Starchamps.’
