This month has marked the start of the new Zespri SunGold season, Zespri's yellow kiwifruit, which already has a great popularity among Spanish consumers. With an extremely high amount of vitamin C and a delicious sweet flavour, Zespri SunGold is now available in stores across the country, after the first refrigerated shipments arrived in Antwerp in mid-May.
The taste of Zespri SunGold, which is completely different to that of other yellow kiwis, has actually been granted the TASTE OF THE YEAR 2016 label by consumers themselves. This is the only food quality certification that guarantees good taste, as it is based on the products being tested and approved by consumers.
In short, Zespri SunGold has already become a highly desired fruit by Spanish consumers. This growing demand, both in Spain and in other countries, will be met this campaign with an overall growth in sales volumes, with a harvest of yellow varieties (Gold and SunGold) estimated at a total of about 50 million trays, of which most are Zespri SunGold. This volume represents an increase over last year, when the harvest of yellow varieties totalled 32 million trays.
Zespri's yellow kiwi doesn't only stand out for its flavor; it is also a very healthy fruit, packed with nutritional properties. It is worth noting, for example, that it contains 161.3 milligrams of vitamin C per 100 grams of fruit, which is three times more than an orange. Therefore, it has become a great option to get all the vitamin C that we need every day while enjoying a unique, delicious flavour.
