Expectations of good strawberry harvest Thuringia, Germany

In Thuringia, in central Germany, they expect a good strawberry harvest this year. Currently strawberries growing in tunnels are being harvested.

The head of the fruit cultivation department of the Gartenbauverband, Axel Swoboda stated that strawberries growing in tunnels are being harvested right now. And from the end of May, the beginning of June the strawberries growing in the open field will be harvested.

“We don’t have any serious frost damage, the flowering period was quite regular.” How ever the precipitation was rather low, and strawberries from fields without irrigation can be quite small. Swoboda is counting on a yield of 1,800 to 2,000 metric tons. In the state of Thuringia strawberries are cultivated on 168 hectares.
