Large supply bell peppers

The bell pepper market may have distinguished itself positively in price compared to other greenhouse vegetables during the first few weeks of the season, prices are still far lower than they were last year. Traders say that there was quite some supply from Spain up till last week, and that supply is ample.

Prices for yellow bell peppers fluctuate widely. For example, they are sold at 1 to 1.30 Euro, but were auctioned for 1.50 Euro. Red bell peppers are at a similar level with 1.20 to 1.30 Euro. Prices for green bell peppers are around 1.50 Euro and the orange ones are sold at 1.20 Euro. These prices are for large sizes in boxes, smaller sizes have higher market prices than these.

“All markets are actually active. There has been good demand from eastern Europe, but we lost that last week. Now that prices are slightly lower, the Eastern bloc is carefully entering the market again. The quality of the bell peppers is just good. They are slightly larger this season, which is not making it easy to pack them. And how the market will continue to develop? A lot of trade is coming, so I hope we will be able to sell a lot,” a trader concludes positively.
