Egyptian grape season starts
“Popularity red grapes increased”
Last week Wim Bezemer and Medhat Samir of Four Seasons Fruit Supply (FSFS) visited Egyptian grape cultivators and they are very happy. “We are excitedly looking forward to the first shipment of Early Sweet and Prime which we will receive at the end of week 21,” according to the importers. “The first Flame Red Seedless are expected in week 22. Quality is perfect this year, especially considering the size of the fruit.”
More demand for red grapes
Four Seasons will therefore bring extra quality on the market, which is interesting for consumers. “Popularity of red grapes increased in recent years. This is because coloured fruit contains more antioxidants.” Bezemer and Samir continue: “Our partners in Egypt, Ibrahim and Mohamed Hegazy, expect more production than in previous years and better quality and presentation in the early strains Early Sweet and Prime. The strain Sugarone will start later in the season, but will produce less volume.”
Bezemer and Samir expect a very good season for Flame Red Seedless. “This is because there are shortages from other countries, due to, among other things, bad weather circumstances. The only alternative for good quality therefore primarily comes from Egypt.”
