Gemex opens new location in Genk
On Saturday, 14 May the new location of export company Gemex was officially opened in Genk, Belgium, by the mayor of Genk. Approximately 200 invited guests were present at the event. Business manager Mariette Hansen said that they have been active in the building from the end of February, but that last week everything was finally completed for the opening. “It was a wonderful event, and we are very happy with our new location.”
Space for further growth
The surface of the building is 4,000 m2. “We rented our last location, and we had our storage at the auction. We now own everything, and office and cold rooms are near each other. Besides, we have room to grow further here. The largest advantage is that we are perfectly located here regarding our customers. We can be in Germany in 30 minutes, so logistically speaking we have definitely made progress.”

Gemex was established by Mariette Hansen and Jos Jordens in 1988. The company specialises in the export of fruits and vegetables to Germany. The former location was situated in Herk-De-Stad. Gemex started small. “German wholesale trade increasingly demanded Belgian products, and we anticipated that. This is still growing, and we look positively to the future.”
