China: Start of Mengyin cherry picking season

Mengyin County is located near Linxi city in Shandong province. The county is for nearly 94% covered with hills and mountains. Besides, its climate is brings an annual average temperate of 12.8 degrees and 200 frost-free days per year. All these geographical and climate conditions are beneficial for agricultural production, which has made Mengyin county one of China's 10 counties renowned for fruit plantation.

Mengyin county produces peaches, cherries, apricots and plums. The indoor peach season is about to come to an end. It will be followed by the new cherry crop, of which picking has just started.

Currently, Mengyin County has a cherry plantation area of over 800 hectares, on which over a dozen cherry varieties are grown. Next week, the cherry picking season will start, and their cherry supply can last until Mid June. Judging by the current harvest situation, this season's cherries are excellent in quality and the yield looks promising as well.

Generally speaking, Menyin cherries are sold mostly to Shenzhen or Guangzhou province. This year, the county hopes that more consumers from across the country will have the opportunity to taste their best quality cherries.
