Argentinian stonefruit harvest comes to an end with better results

The harvest of Argentinian stonefruit, which is mainly intended for domestic consumption, came to an end a couple of weeks ago with good results. "Normally, our season kicks off in late October and lasts until mid-March, but this year it has been slightly extended and has lasted almost until the end of March, which has helped us obtain better results than those of previous years," states Andrés Fraga, spokesperson of Coexco.

While in recent weeks South America has had many rains which have affected various crops, in the specific case of peaches and nectarines, no significant incidents have been recorded. "While rains can affect the quality of fruit and shorten its shelf life, the impact of El Niño on these specific fruits has been barely noticeable so far. We hope the weather will remain on our side so that the harvesting period can develop as expected," continued the spokesperson.

"With the export agreements signed by the new government, we may be able to start exporting these fruits on a larger scale. But while the change of government has been relatively beneficial for us, a very long process is required for these government policies to start yielding tangible results for exporters and producers. For now, the domestic market remains our priority," concludes Fraga.
