There will be up to 200,000 tons of product

Mexico: Sinaloa expects good prices for mango

Ramon Gamez Gastelum stated that mango producers had already initiated cuts in 35,000 hectares established in Sinaloa, where they expected to harvest up to 200,000 tons, and that the new increase in the price of the dollar against the peso would help them have a good season.

Panorama
The head of Plant Health of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food state delegation said that, apart from having good expectations for this season, the production in the states of Guerrero, Michoacan, Chiapas, and Oaxaca was very low and that prices were so high that they reached an average of 30 pesos per kilogram to consumers, while producers got paid 18 pesos per kilo.

The production in Nayarit and in Sinaloa has been normal, except for the winds in March that affected an average of 1,500 hectares in southern Sinaloa.

He also stated that they estimated this year's production would amount to 200,000 tons, 125,000 of which will be allocated to the export market.

Phytosanitary control
Regarding the progress of the program to fight the fruit fly, he said they were conducting aerial chemical control in southern Sinaloa so that they didn't have any larvae in the fruit and so that the gardens are free of pests and can be included in the export programs to the United States.

Additionally, they are promoting an agricultural safety program so that all packaging and production units comply with the system to reduce pollution risks so that they are recognized by Senasica.
