No dimethoate on cherries in France and Belgium

Following France, Belgium is now also revoking the use of dimethoate on cherries. In France the use of dimethoate on cherries has been banned since February 1. At the end of March the French minister of agriculture, Stephane le Foll, attempted to ban the use of the insecticide across the EU through the European Commission. This was unsuccessful and this is why the French government decided to ban the import of cherries treated with dimethoate. The ban started on April 22 and will be active until the end of this year. As of last week, May 5, the use of dimethoate on cherries is also no longer permitted in Belgium. Dimethoate had a place in the fight against the suzuki fruit fly.
