New season starting in July

China: Ruicheng late apple varieties still available for export

Ruicheng County is located in the South of Yuncheng City in Shanxi province, close to the Yellow River in China. The county is one of China's largest apple producing regions.

Apple yields from Yuncheng account for 70% of that from Shanxi province, which accounts for 10% of China's total apple production.

By the end of 2013, Yuncheng planted a total of 150,000 hectares of apple trees (2.2 million mu), which is approximately 8% of China's total plantings. The region can produce 3.8 million ton apples per year. In Ruicheng County 20,000 hectares of fruit trees have recently been planted, of which 83% are apple trees. Annual yield can reach 0.6 million tons.

As of June 2015, Ruicheng apples are exported to US, and to Canada as of March 2016. One month later, export to Dubai started. In May, many of the apples in storage in China have become to old to be exported well with a transit time of twenty days or more. Ruicheng apples are known for their long shelf-life and the apples are still traded frequently.
