Chilean grapes distributed to “Race For the Cure” participants

During the "Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure" held recently next to Los Angeles Dodger Stadium, the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association teamed up with Northgate Gonzalez Markets to distribute Chilean grapes among runners, in an event that brought together more than 12,000 people.

Among the various actions taken by the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association of America (CFFA) in the markets of the US and Canada to spread the presence and characteristics of Chilean fruit, it highlights the participation in activities that promote the health of people through the consumption of nutritious and healthy products, such as fruits from Chile.

This time the CFFA was a participating sponsor for Northgate González Markets and their Viva La Salud/Health and Wellness Program. Northgate Gonzalez Markets, a 40 Store Chain based in Anaheim, CA is a leader among the Hispanic population in Southern California. CFFA distributed Chilean grapes among runners after finishing their participation at the Northgate Gonzalez Markets Tent Pavilion.

"Chilean grapes turns out to be the perfect and healthy fruit to be present at a sporting event. In addition, to being part of this a huge event for an amazing cause, this was a nice opportunity for participants to know about the availability of Chilean grapes during the winter in the North America,” said Steve Hattendorf, merchandiser for CFFA.

The CFFA donated boxes of Chilean red grapes that were distributed at the event. In addition, Northgate Gonzalez Markets, coordinated with their very own Viva La Salud, Chef Pablo, to incorporate Chilean grapes in recipes that were handed out to the runners.

The representative added that this was the 20th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for Cure in Los Angeles. They had a record number of nearly 12,000 participants who participated in order to raise money for breast cancer programs.

Finally, the merchandiser of the CFFA said that Chilean grapes are rich in antioxidants known as polyphenols, which can reduce or prevent many types of cancer, including esophageal, lung, mouth, pharynx, endometrium, pancreas, prostate and colon.
