Fresca GmbH, John Symeonides

"Egyptian grape season expected to start 10 days earlier"

John Symeonides, Managing Director of Fresca GmbH in Dusseldorf/Germany is feeling optimistic about the early start of the Egyptian grape season this year. Fresca imports different varieties of fruit and vegetables from Egypt, China , Peru, Chile, Colombia amongst others.

Fresca will introduce the “Melody Black” in the German market this year

Fresca was a pioneering company in the import of grapes from Egypt. These grapes are gown in different region of Egypt.

The 'Melody' variety

“The Egyptian grape season is expected to start 10 days earlier than normal. This is due to the warm temperatures in Egypt. The first picking of the early varieties will take place on the 7th of May, but we need to be careful and wait until the Indian grape season is finished to avoid the problem of flooding the market with grapes,” explains John.

The grape season will kick off with the varieties 'Early Sweet' and 'Prime' and will finish off with 'Sugra One'. As for the varieties red varieties, the 'Flames' variety is expected to start a week after the white seedless grapes. "We anticipate the quality this year, to be better, than last year!"

A new variety of Fresca, the “Timco Red Seedless”

The main weakness of the 'Flames' grapes is usually the cracking of the berry, and we hope to avoid it this year. In order to prevent this potential "berry cracking” problem we have added new varieties in Egypt this year and an example of this is 'Timco Red Seedless'. In addition to this Fresca will also introduce black grape varieties in the German market this year: 'Melody Black' and 'Midnight and Dessert Black'.

So far this year, the weather has contributed to a high quality Egyptian harvest!
