US: California company repackages a fruit favorite

Since 1961, Amber Foods has offered a classic fruit salad product, their Fruit Luau, in one to three-gallon sizes. Product demand comes from the food service industry, hospitals and schools, but the look of the product on the outside didn’t match the quality on the inside. Change was in order, and the Fruit Luau will don a new look by mid-May.

“It’s a complete redesign,” explained Melissa Steward, director of marketing for Amber Foods. “The packaging hasn’t been updated in 28 years, so we needed a redesign to package the product in a way that represents who this company is.

“The packaging is more innovative, it’s brighter, more colorful and illustrates exactly what’s in the fruit luau.”

Consisting of fresh cut cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, grapes and oranges, the Fruit Luau has a resealable lid for longer shelf life compared to other similar products. Steward says the new look is already garnering attention and sales.

“This product is ready for retail, and our customers are liking the design. Pre-order sales are already higher than the sales we had before the update.”

The re-branding also allows for the packaging to be available in both English and Spanish.
