North American Produce Buyers bring seedless Muscats to Canada

As a leading Canadian buyer and wholesaler of fresh produce, North American Produce Buyers has, among other things, continued to supply Canadian retailers with Chilean grapes, stonefruit and cherries. Those programs have been growing in recent years, partly due to the popularity of new varieties, like the seedless Muscat grape variety.

"With Muscats, we started with nothing a few years ago, and now we have significant volume," said Larry Davidson with North American Produce Buyers. "Anyone who tries the grape returns to buy it again, so it's growing so much it's almost becoming a category unto itself." Part of the appeal is that it brings the distinct, pungent flavor of a Muscat grape and delivers that in a seedless variety.

"We don't have to fumigate the fruit when bringing it into Toronto, so with optimal storage facilities, we can store the grapes up to one month," added Davidson. "There are a lot of new grape varieties, and that's the same with stonefruit. That's one of the reasons why our business has really grown with Chilean grapes, stonefruit and cherries."
