Carrots favourite vegetable in Switzerland

The favorite vegetables in Switzerland are carrots, tomatoes and sweet peppers. The latter pushed iceberg lettuce out of the top three. 

In 2015 8.86 kilos of carrots per head were consumed (previous year 8.23 kilos). The total carrot consumption was 71,510 metric tons.

The consumption of tomatoes was 7.13 kilos per head (previous year 7.82 kilos) with a total consumption of 58,745 metric tons.

These new numbers come from the “Statistical annual report” of the Central Office for vegetables and cultivated crops (SZG).

The newcomer in the top three is sweet pepper with 4.43 kilos per head. They pushed iceberg lettuce to fourth place.

However, if the cherry tomatoes, which are in 10th place with 2.76 kilos per head, are added to the regular tomatoes they will move ahead of carrots to first position.
