China: Huge opportunity for New Zealand kiwi's

Last year, Shaanxi Province alone, consumed a total number of 120,000 boxes of New Zealand kiwifruit.

Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi, is the home of China's domestic kiwi fruit production. Chinese kiwi's enter the market in autumn and are available until Spring. During the end of Spring and throughout the summer, there is no domestic supply.

This gap is now filled by kiwi's from New Zealand. Since first market entry in 2015, sales of NZ kiwi's went up significantly. It is estimated that total imports will reach 30 to 40 million boxes in 2016. Total import volume for the Northeast is expected to reach 75 to 100 million boxes.

It is expected that the first batches of kiwis will arrive by the 25th of April
