First new onions from Southern China

Since the start of this week, onion prices in China have come down heavily. In Shenyang province, North of Beijing, prices dropped 30%. Yunnan red onion prices have come down from 6 Yuan per kilogram to 2 Yuan, whilst white onion prices dropped from 4 to 3 Yuan per kilogram.

An increase in supply has lead to the price drop. The first onions from Yunnan and Sichuan, two provinces in the South of China, are have arrived on the market in the beginning of April. By now, these supplies have moved to the North of China, bringing prices down. The price decrease is expected to continue.
