Onubafruit to boost production with new lands

The cultivation of strawberries and other berries in the region of Huelva has developed successfully in recent decades, with a gradual expansion and diversification, to the point that a great level of expertise has been achieved. This is the case of the companies under Onubafruit: Costa de Huelva, Cobella, Cartayfres, SAT Condado and Freslucena.

A few days ago, the lands of the former Marquis of Gibraleón became one of the largest farms in the province, thanks to Cooperativa Costa de Huelva. It has about 800 hectares, 600 of which intended for irrigated crops, which will be added to the 600 already in production that the cooperative had in the county. The other 200 hectares correspond to Mediterranean forest and will be protected and cared for by the state.

The purchase of these lands, promoted primarily to continue to respond to customer demands, especially the European Union, is a major boost for Costa de Huelva, for Onubafruit and for the province as a whole.

With this new development, Cooperativa Costa de Huelva becomes the largest cooperative sector in the province of Huelva and Onubafruit will rank among the top 5 national agro-food businesses, behind DCOOP and COVAP.

It is certainly a big step for Onubafruit, the sector's only second degree cooperative in the province of Huelva. The results obtained in terms of turnover and job creation prove that this form of collective undertaking has a great future, despite remaining far from the volumes achieved by large agro-business cooperatives in Europe.
