India: Mango irradiation for US export starts April 15

The irradiation facility of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (Barc) at Lasalgaon will start from April 15 irradiating mangoes for export to the US. Irradiation of mangoes is mandatory according to the norms related to the export to the US.

The centre is eyeing to irradiate around 400 tonnes during the 2016 mango season. At present, 7 tonnes of mangoes are being irradiated during an eight-hour shift at the Lasalgaon centre. Last season, the facility had irradiated 328 tonnes of mangoes.
