Honduras will host more than 500 international buyers in Agromercados

The organizing committee of the Agromercados 2016 Agricultural Fair is fine-tuning details to receive more than 500 companies and international buyers that will visit Honduras to participate in this international event, which will be held on May 19 and 20 at the premises of San Pedro Sula's Exposition Center.

Agromercados 2016 will have a networking event with more than 1,000 business meetings, where Honduran companies will have the opportunity to do business with buyers from USA, Canada, and Mexico, who are looking for products such as rambutan, okra, mangoes, pineapple, colorful chillies, tropical fruits, dried vegetables, melons, sweet potatoes, oriental vegetables, peas,

Also valencia orange and lemon messino, green banana, onion, avocado, pumpkin, ground coffee, beef and chicken meat; fresh herbs such as basil, mint, oregano, parsley, cilantro, arugula, thyme, lemon leaves, curry leaves, zucchini, pepper, orchids, red beans, French green beans, sage, dill, spinach, fenugreek, curly cabbage, radish, sorrel / Agrilla, tarragon, horseradish, laurel, thinking / type of flower, turmeric and fennel.

There will also be Central American buyers from El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Guatemala, which will be looking for mixed fruit (orange, lemon, carrot), pineapple, palm oil, peeling sesame, cocoa powder, dried fruit , organic sesame seeds, organic cashews, organic chia, organic beans, organic aloe vera, organic noni, organic tropical fruit, red beans, sweet potato, fresh vegetables and fresh fruits among others.

French and Italian companies looking for suppliers of fresh fruits, sweet potato, dehydrated fruits and specialty ground espresso-type coffees have also confirmed their assistance.

The goal of Agromercados Honduras is giving the people committed to the production sector a place where they can do business, get up to date information, make institutional relations, exchange experiences, find opportunities to innovate, and promote their products, among other things.

Honduras faces significant challenges, such as diversifying its supply of exportable agricultural products to generate greater dynamism and complementing the efforts of other productive sectors.

According to the Central Bank of Honduras, the country exported 3.8 million dollars in 2015, twenty two percent of which correspond to non-traditional agricultural products. Tobacco and pineapple exports stand out as they grew by more than 20%. Banana, coffee, and vegetables exports increased between 6 and 15% over 2014.

The 2016 edition of Agromercados will have new activities, such as the American Center Inclusive Business Forum sponsored by VECOMA, the Milk and Meat Congress organized by the FENAGH and its milk and meat chambers; and many activities supported by the Fund for Sustainable Development UNDP to publicize the cultural riches of the Lenca Ethnicity in Honduras.

This edition of the Fair will take place thanks to the support of Group Cadelga Fertica, La Colonia Supermarkets, Vecoma-Belgium, the USAID Trade and Regional Partnership Program, the PNUD Fund for Sustainable Development, IDE, the Agricultural Producers CERCA Group and TEN Channel 10.

The event is organized by the Foundation for Rural Business Development (Funder), the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG) and the Federation of Farmers and Ranchers of Honduras (Fenagh).
