Aral and REWE start a long-term cooperation

From pilot to partnership: only two years after the start of the pilot of the REWE ToGo-Shop concept in ten Aral petrol stations, REWE and Aral signed a long-term cooperation agreement. The key point of the agreement is the introduction of the innovative REWE ToGo format at about 1000 Aral petrol stations in Germany. REWE ToGo includes a significantly expanded range of high quality fresh and freshly prepared food and hot food. And the concept is popular with travelling customers; during the pilot period the revenue of the trial petrol stations has clearly increased across all categories. This is due to the higher purchase frequency of the customers, and customers buy more during their visits, and new customer groups are attracted to the petrol stations.

“The pilot clearly shows that the time is right for the next large evolution in the business,” says Patrick Wendeler, CEO of Aral. “With the trendsetting REWE ToGo-Format we can meet even better the growing demands of mobile, quality-oriented customers and also the customers close to our stations."

Aral invests in the next five years in the structural changes of the petrol stations to improve the store range. In addition to the 10 pilot stores 50 petrol stations will be featured with a REWE ToGo-Shop. The first 14 will open before the end of April. The other petrol stations will be changed during the year. And in the next year 200 other petrol stations will be converted.
