The company was bought by Coop Suisse, Alifresca Italy will therefore source the mainly Italian products sold by the Suisse cooperative, while a Spanish company will be in charge of the Spanish products.
"Self-checks are vital, as supplier quality checks do not reflect reality. A decision was made to outsource quality control to Hortkinetix. They are now creating a system to be used in Italy and Spain that will take into account elements such as sustainability, social issues and staff training."
Vladimir Cob Sevilla, CEO of ALifresca AG and Alifresca Italy, during Fruit Logistica 2016.
The major change is in the fact that checks are now being carried out before signing a contract. After thar, the producer/supplier will take over.
"We will be able to choose suppliers who we trust, so as to avoid having to change them every year. We would like to meet with our suppliers at least once a year to build a strong relationship."
"We want our suppliers to become our partners rather than our subordinates. We won't keep checking on them, because we chose them in the first place. We will show everyone how this was the right choice."
In addition to a branch in Spain, Alifresca also has a branch in Italy. "We chose to be in Italy and we will move abroad (Greece, Egypt, Turkey) depending on the season."
This approach may bring new opportunities for Italian produce as, so far "Coop Suisse bought products like berries and asparagus elsewhere."
