Chinese New Year fruits dominated by imports from ASEAN countries

Many ASEAN fruit merchants captured a part of the hugeChinese seasonal demand during Chinese New Year through e-commerce platforms.


 

Meiliwan, established in 2013, is the first Chinesee-commerce platform of ASEAN. According to Mr. Sun Suojun, CEO of Meiliwan, based on Meiliwan's market data, consumer goods from ASEAN countries suchas fresh fruits and premium rice, experienced very strong sales growth during Chinese New Year. ASEAN merchantsare also increasingly accepting renminbi as settlement currency, which consolidates the mutually beneficialdevelopment.

Mr Sun further highlighted, that during Chinese New Year,people in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou spend over CNY 200 on fresh fruitson average. In Nanning, Guiling, and Liuzhou, people spend about CNY 100 onaverage. This represents excellent market potentials for ASEAN fruits.
