Mark de Deugd, FruitMasters:

More opportunities with new wax line for apples

Fruitmasters participated in the Fruit Logistica in Berlin with a new stand. The full supply of fresh fruit was presented to existing and potential customers at the stand; from Dutch top and soft fruit in various packaging to the full import package. Besides this there was widespread attention for novelties such as the Migo pear and waxed apples.

Demand for Migo
The new pear Migo was present as a brand at the Fruitmasters stall for the first time this year. In the Netherlands Migo is grown by Fruitmasters growers and introduced onto the Dutch market exclusively by Fruitmasters. "Migo was launched at the start of September. The first harvest of Migo was on shelves at the start of November. Migo is receiving more brand awareness. This was shown by the interest in the pear during the Fruit Logistica," says Mark de Deugd.

Widening sales possibilities
Waxed apples, you hardly see them in the Netherlands, but foreign buyers love them. This is why Fruitmasters bought a new machine to wax apples last December. "This line is widening our product supple and our sales possibilities," says Mark de Deugd. "We are mainly seeing possibilities for Jonagold, Red Prince and Kanzi. We have been running the new line recently and have had a lot of interest. The Fruit Logistica is a great opportunity to show that we can also offer this. The first waxed apples have already been sold."
