For the largest logistics hub in Africa, at the Addis Ababa airport

Celtic Cooling installs 17,000 sqm of refrigerated cells in Ethiopia

The Dutch Celtic Cooling company is providing cold rooms with the newest technology, to the new large cargo terminal for Ethiopian Airlines at the Addis Ababa airport in Ethiopia. The airline had a new cargo facility built in order to be able to load 600,000 tons of goods each year, destined for Europe and elsewhere.

Largest logistics hub in Africa
The new terminal is five times bigger than the old, and makes Addis Ababa the largest hub for cargo traffic in Africa. From the Celtic Cooling cold rooms, flowers, vegetables and some fruit will be loaded onto cargo planes. The expansion is good news for local growers, the government and consumers in the Netherlands. The airport is struggling with the question of remaining storage capacity for refrigerated fruit, vegetables and flowers for export.

In the new cold rooms that cover 17,000 square meters (equivalent to nearly three soccer fields) the cargo of 14 large cargo planes can fit in this space. The rooms are cooled to +2°C and are equipped with the most modern system for air freight facilities. The main contractor for the new trans-shipment terminal is the German company, Unitechnik Systems.

History
Celtic Cooling has been in Ethiopia for 18 years and they have established their own office here for service purposes. In 2013 the company delivered 3,500 square meters of cold rooms for the temporary storage that was created at the time. In 1998 Celtic Cooling installed their first cold room in this country. Last summer Celtic installed their 500th cold room in Ethiopia.

Celtic Cooling will be at Fruit Logistica in Berlin in hall 4.1, stand C.17.
