Benjamin Singh, Food Freshly:

"We help fresh-cut processors improve quality, reduce costs and grow sales"

The German specialist for Bio-preservation for
fresh-cut fruit, FOOD freshly®, is introducing new
concepts for fresh-cut processors at this year’s Fruit
Logistica. “We are helping fresh-cut processors
improve product quality, reduce costs and grow
their sales,” Benjamin Singh, Director of Technical
Sales said.

To achieve this, FOOD freshly® offers techniques that can help lower the overall consumption of current antioxidant solutions. “We know that a lot fresh-cut processors are overusing their antioxidants. Since the concentration of our Freshness Retainers can be accurately tracked and measured, customers are able to achieve a significant cost reduction,” Singh explained.

Furthermore, FOOD freshly® is helping fresh-cut processors grow their sales by launching new, innovative fresh-cut products. These include the new, flavoured Freshness Retainers. These products are able to attain 21 days of shelf-life for apple snacks, while also adding natural flavour to the apple slices. Grape and Peach flavoured apples were successfully picked up by major retail chains in Canada. “Our customers can achieve a significant increase in sales by adding flavoured apples and pears to existing apple snack ranges,” said Singh. FOOD freshly® is also going to launch several new flavours including Mango, Strawberry, Vanilla, Milk Chocolate, Lychee, Cherry, and Caramel over the coming months. Certain specific flavour types can further be developed on demand. The product range is designed for fresh-cut processors who produce apple and pear slices for retailers. “The naturally flavoured snacks make regular apple and pear snacks more exciting which is why they are being picked up, especially by households with little children,” added Singh.

For processors of tropical fruits, FOOD freshly® has developed O Plus BIO-2, which is effectively reducing micro bacteria on fruits including Mangos, Pineapples and Melons. These fruits present a special challenge due to their tendency to grow bacteria, yeast and fungus fairly quickly. O Plus BIO-2 is organic and improves overall food safety by preventing the growth of these organisms effectively. Like all FOOD freshly® products, O Plus BIO-2 is free of preservatives, GMO and sulfites.

FOOD freshly® Middle East is going to launch part of their Freshness Retainer range for sale in retail in early spring. The products enable every household to keep prepared fruits and vegetables fresh for a longer time. Furthermore, the products are suitable for hotel kitchens and caterers that prepare their own fruits and vegetables. The concept will pioneer in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and surrounding countries, and is planned to roll out across Europe throughout 2016.
