"Purple sprouts aren't a hype"

Sprouts are not just available in green nowadays, they have had a purple sibling for a few years now. There is certainly interest in it. This was said by Peter Cardoen of Groothandel Claessens from Antwerp. "They come straight from a grower so we can supply them to our customers fresh. We have had the purple sprouts in our assortment since last year. The catering businesses show a lot of interest in this product. The volume isn't that high yet, but the demand has doubled since then."

Not a hype
According to Peter there are regularly new products and it is only apparent after a while whether a product is here to stay or not. "Sometime you see hypes pass by, but the purple sprout is a trend that is continuing, a vegetable here to stay. The taste is a lot milder than the green sprout and this is drawing many people's attention. And of course they're very healthy!" Claessens isn't offering purple sprouts at the moment, but expects a new shipment from the Netherlands next week. The company also has the flower sprout in their assortment. This product also comes directly from the grower.
