IRTA present late-flowering almond tree varieties at Fruit Logistica

After the success achieved with the varieties within
the growing national production, IRTA wants to expand to other almond production regions in America, North of Africa, Middle East, and Australia.

Between 3 - 5 February, IRTA will participate in the Fruit Logistica fair in Berlin, the most important event of the fruit sector in Europe. As an innovation and technology development instrument of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fishery, Food, and Environment of the Catalan government, IRTA will be beside Catalan producers and exhibitors that aim to increase the export capacity of the sector.

IRTA will show its scientific and technical capacities focused on generating more competitive varieties and production systems. Among the research areas are the development of almond tree varieties recently introduced in crops in the Iberian Peninsula with very positive results and wide acceptance by the people from the sector. The ‘Constantí’, ‘Marinada’, ‘Tarraco’, and ‘Vairo’ varieties are the names of four hard-skinned almond tree varieties developed by IRTA´s fruit growing program, which stand out for characteristics such as late blooming, productivity, and resistance to diseases.

Various other technical capacities in other crops will also be advertised at the Fruit Logistica stand, for example olive groves and the oil industry, stone and pip fruit; novel technical services for companies will also be presented, such as officially recognized trials for the registry of phytosanitary products or post-harvesting technical services.

Visit them at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, in hall 10.2, stand B-07e.
