Niels Pelkmans and Giuseppe Castro, Alcion Holland:

"Our strength lies in our combination of transport and forwarding"

Logistics server Alcion is entering its twentieth year this year. Alcion has been at the Hazeldonk transport zone in Breda, Netherlands since 2002. The company is active in temperature controlled transport throughout Europe, "Our strength lies in the combination of transport (with our own trailers) and forwarding. This allows us to give our customers even more added value," explains Niels Pelkmans.

"Our customers are spread out all over Europe. Our transport to and from the U.K., Italy, France, Spain and Benelux is strong. The German market is coming! More than 80% of our transport consists of fruits and vegetables. When it comes to forwarding, Spain and Italy are strong players," says Giuseppe Castro, who is originally from Italy. The problems in Calais affect Alcion as well, "Recently, we have had a lot of problems because of this situation. The worst is that it is an EU problem, yet the problem has been shifted to the carriers. In addition to longer wait times, it also has a lot of impact on the drivers," says Niels.

"In order to respond effectively to the market situation we have invested in a fleet of refrigerated modern Schmitz trailers over the years that meet the latest specifications. Alcion is HACCP certified, meaning food safety is guaranteed at all times," continues Niels. "In order to guarantee even better service the services within Alcion will be further automated and digitized by mid-2016. Outside the provision of exporting and importing cargo to and from Benelux with our own trailers, since 1996 we have offered the necessary transportation services within all EU member countries."

"Over the years we have experienced gradual growth and we did not fall into the trap of wanting to grow too quickly. This allowed us to respond quickly to changing market situations over the years," explains Giuseppe. "Our customers have one contact person who acts as the contact point. Both partners are fully operationally active in the company, and customers appreciate the flexibility and the direct lines within Alcion. We are customer focused, we speak their language and meet our commitments. We are very positive about the future!"
