Transport world busy with stowaways last week

The European transport world is looking back at a troubled week. Last week on Wednesday the Belgian police took 11 refugees from the hard shoulder near Antwerp. After the refugees had hidden in the cargo space, they soon realised England was not the destination and decided to turn back via the emergency lane.

There were also illegal immigrants who stayed on the ride until the final destination. On Thursday a Spanish chauffeur in Warmenhuizen, Netherlands turned out to have delivered five Iraqis as well as fruit and vegetables.

On Friday morning the ABC Westland was the final destination of four Iraqis too. They were found in a Witkamp truck. Hillfresh was the next victim on Friday morning, with seven illegal immigrants among the cucumbers and the peppers. The shipment was destroyed for hygiene reasons and the stowaways were taken to the bureau.

On Saturday afternoon the fire service picked up ten refugees from a French shipment of cauliflowers at the Belgian Kruibeke in a truck with a German number plate. There were nine men and a woman, all with Iraqi nationalities. The week was ended by anti fascists who celebrated the dream of open borders in Calais. Halfway through the day 200 illegal immigrants added actions to words and stormed the ferry. Due to the timely closing of the shutters the migrants were kept from getting board.
