Fruit Logistica 2016, Hall 2.2 - Stand A-04

Europe: Popularity of Sicilian oranges increases

The 2015 export campaign went well for Oranfrizer, a Sicilian company that ships its blood oranges all over the world. 2016 is looking just as positive.

Before heading off to Berlin for Fruit Logistica, the company told FreshPlaza that this was made possible due to the good results of the commercial tests carried out during the previous season, which met the expectations of even the most demanding customers and facilitated the introduction of new varieties such as Tarocco Ippolito, Mnadared and Tacle.

The buyers discovered Tarocco
"The appreciation for Italian citrus fruit in increasing abroad. Oranfrizer is committed to expanding customer knowledge of the various blood orange varieties grown in Sicily. Those buyers who had always bought the Moro variety have finally started to recognise the qualities of the Tarocco - red flesh, big grades and balanced taste."

Tarocco orange.

In 2016, shipments towards the UK will triple to meet the demands of three big retailers. Northern Europe has increased its orders of Moro and Tarocco. The export of big-grade premium fruit has been active since December and is expected to last until April (and probably continue until May). In addition, Mandared and Tacle will also be introduced.

A new premium line of lemons will be launched in Norway - "Coop Norway is extending its range to add up to the Moro, Tarocco and Washington Navel volumes."

But the new market for this campaign is Sweden. The company will launch both Moro and Tarocco Ippolito on the market to diversify its supply from the start and so customers can recognise the quality of both varieties.

The fair in Berlin
At Fruit Logistica 2016, Oranfrizer will be part of the Italy section.

For its promotional images, the company has chosen the images of oranges thriving at the foothills of mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Once again, Oranfrizer associates its core business to its territory of origin. Blood oranges are the healthiest symbol of Sicily in the world thanks to their unique nutritional and flavour characteristics guaranteed by the PGI mark. The company has been investing in this fruit, which represents a driving force for the economy of the largest island of the Mediterranean, for over 50 years.

During the fair, company representatives will meet with buyers from many countries and take part in association and industry meetings.

Marketing Manager Salvo Laudani, Sole Administrator Nello Alba and Export Manager Sara Grasso will attend the fair.

Oranfrizer will promote the potential of the new citrus fruit varieties on which it has chosen to invest to diversify its range and extend the production calendar such as Tarocco Ippolito and Mandared.
