Lettuce prices plummet in some places

Lettuce
As usual the iceberg lettuce came from Spain, the large supplies didn’t create sufficient demand. As a result the prices had to be dropped, slightly with the fresh supplies and more with accumulated surplus. In Hamburg the prices plummeted due to the excess surplus. In addition, lettuces with flawed leaves put pressure on the trade. Green lettuce came mainly from Belgium and the range was completed with lettuce from France and Italy. The sales options were subject to weather conditions and a variety of other limitations. Some prices remained stable but there was a downward trend. The Belgian lettuce was popular with the high weight per head and thus was the most expensive. The supply of mixed salads usually met the demand. In Hamburg the prices went up compared to the previous week due to the attractive quality. In other places if the demand was good the prices remained the same, if the demand was slow the prices had the tendency to go down. Some of the Belgian Lollo Rosso barely sold, even at 4 Euro per crate. Italian endives and some French endives sold quickly. Due to the expected cold, wet weather and the increased frost the supply of lambs’ lettuce reduced.

Apples
The trade was continuously dominated by Germany with a wide range of apple varieties. Overall the quiet demand could be met easily.

Pears
Italy dominated the trade, the quality of the supply convinced most and overall the demand was calm but constant.

Grapes
In the meantime the trade was clearly dominated by South African grapes. And while the importance of imported Namibian grapes markedly increased, the presence of Peruvian grapes considerably decreased.

Kiwis
The supply was sufficient to easily satisfy the continuous demand. And the prices did not significantly change since the quality of the kiwis convinced the buyers.

Oranges
The Spanish Navelina oranges clearly beat all the competition in the trade. And the first Spanish Cara Cara and Sanguinelli reached the market in the segment of blood oranges.

Other small citrus fruit
The importance of tangerines increased immensely. Not only were Spanish Clemenvilla and Nadorcott available but Orri from Israel, Italian Tacle, Moroccan Afourer and Turkish and Israeli Minneola were available too.

Lemons
Spanish Primofiori lemons dominated the trade and the prices often remained stable, but the prices for the Spanish batches went up due to the raised demand.

Bananas
The market was properly supplied and with the current sales the prices remained at the same level.

Cauliflowers
French cauliflowers dominated ahead of the Italian cauliflowers. The availability increased compared to last week and was sufficient to meet the demand.

Cucumbers
The Spanish cucumbers dominated the trade and only in Munich the supply was completed with Greek cucumbers. At the beginning the sales were rather subdued, but later on revived.

Tomatoes
Spanish tomatoes and Spanish vine tomatoes dominated the trade and Moroccan tomatoes completed the range. The prices for those tomatoes dropped due to the increased availability.

Sweet peppers
The trade was marked by uneven developments. And in the beginning, the prices of the Spanish peppers were significantly increased due to the restricted supply.

Onions
As usual the onions were only imported from Spain, and a significantly, prices remained the same thanks to the smooth distribution.
